Switch Distribution can help you to get money back from the tax man!

‘Switch Distribution" is the supplier of CP Electronics PIR & Microwave Lighting Controls in Ireland which qualify for the Accelerated Capital Allowance’.

The Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) is a tax incentive which aims to encourage companies to invest in energy saving technology. The ACA allows companies to write off 100% of the purchase value of qualifying energy efficient equipment against their profit in the year of purchase.

Leading equipment suppliers and manufacturers such as Switch Distribution & CP Electronics PIR & Microwave Lighting Controls have submitted eligible equipment to the ACA . (a full list of these are available online on SEI’s website www.sei.ie/aca.

This novel scheme encourages businesses looking to reduce energy costs by investing in energy efficient equipment and enabling them to doubly benefit through the Accelerated Capital Allowances (ACA) tax incentive.

The ACA allows the full cost of the equipment to be deducted from taxable profit in year one, improving payback on investment and benefiting cash flow.

The ACA benefits all companies liable for corporation tax by:

  • Encouraging & incentivising companies to purchase qualifying energy efficient equipment.
  • A Year one reduction in tax liabilities and increasing cash flow.
  • Sustainable reduction in energy costs on day one & throughout the life of the equipment.
  • Providing for allowances to be carried forward if a company doesn't make profits in year one.

How to claim your tax back!

Equipment suppliers and manufacturers such as Switch Distribution & CP Electronics have submitted eligible equipment to the ACA . These are listed online on SEI’s website. Check out the list of eligible products on www.sei.ie/aca , and claims can be proccessed through the revenue commissioners.

Energy saving tips for Lighting around the home

  • Green-i Movement sensors, time delay switches etc. all improve lighting efficiency, eliminating manual operation of lighting in the household is very important and convenient.
  • Dimmers allow you to only use what level of lighting you require at any time and so control the amount of energy you use. (Dimmers cannot be used with most CFLs).
  • Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) use 80% less electricity and last up to 10 times longer than ordinary light-bulbs - you should try install more in your home?
  • Always remember to properly avail of daylight, when getting out of bed in the mornings try opening the curtains rather than turning on the lights!
  • Dust & dirt can reduce lamp efficiency by 20-25%.
  • Missing or dead lamps, defective wiring or broken blinds result in poor lighting performance. Repair & replace with low energy type lamps.
  • Switch Distribution distribute the full range of CP Electronics energysaving controls to the electrical industry. Contact us at sales@switch.ie for further information or see www.energysavers.ie

Disabled Refuge Systems

IF YOU WERE IN A
WHEEL- CHAIR,
or had severe ambulatory problems where would you go in the event of a fire or building evacuation. Most Mechanical means of vertical egress like elevators or escalators are ‘sent to ground’ and automatically powered down.

The Disability Act 2005 has given rise for the need to install ‘Disabled Refuge systems’ in most public buildings. Switch Distribution have established themselves as the leading source for supplies of these systems to the Electrical trade since 2006. We are distributors of The Market leading brand manufactured by Cameo systems.

“Switch” has just launched its brand new 8 Zone RS8 Model. Cameo already offer systems from 4 Zone up to 16,32,48 & 64 zone panels, which can be wired ‘Radially’ or in a loop configuration.

The RS8 like the rest of the Cameo range is designed to be ‘intuitive’ for end users to use, requiring little or no training, or programming. The build quality of both the control panels and the outstations are extremely robust, and they are designed to allow the electrical contractor complete the installation ‘in-house’ rather than rely on expensive sub-contractors or fire/AV installers.

Switch Distribution can offer advice on design, and installation. We can point to our existing large installations in award winning buildings like the Wexford Opera House, The Irish Prison Services Headquarters in Longford, The Shamrock Plaza Shopping centre in Carlow, the Loughrea Hotel, ‘State Street’ Bank in Dublin, and OPW’s new head office in Trim.

Switch Distribution also offers a cost effective C-Tec range, this systems complies like Cameo’s to all the relevant BS Standards, but is only available in a radially wired format.

How can we measure electricity usage in the home ?

By becoming energy aware at home, we can save ourselve's money and help combat climate change. The first step to saving energy is knowing how much we use and how much it costs in realtime! Not just every two months when we recieve our bill!

We measure our electricity and are billed by our energy suppliers per each 1 kWh we use (or one kilowatt per hour).

What is 1 kWh?

Electricity is measured in units. Each unit is equivalent to 1,000 watts of electricity used for one hour - or one kilowatt-hour (kWh).

What do we get for 1 kWh?

On average we can get:

  • An instant electric shower 7 to 10 min
  • An immersion water heater 15 to 20 min
  • A large ring on an electric cooker 20 to 40 min
  • A kettle 20 to 40 min
  • A tumble dryer 20 to 40 min
  • A two-slice toaster 40 to 60 min
  • A washing machine 70 to 100 min
  • A dishwasher 70 to 100 min
  • A desktop computer & monitor 4 to 6 hours
  • A 28-inch TV 6 to 9 hours
  • A 100 watt standard lightbulb 10 hours
  • A 20 watt CFL Lightbulb 50 hours

Switch Distribution offer some very easy to use products (such as the OWL Electricity Monitor) which allows you to measure your electricity usage in real time and change your energy usage habits. See our website http://www.switch.ie/ for more details.
